Mersing, new bus station

I’m posting a few pictures of the new bus station and the new wet market, located next to each other in the river knee, as well as some pictures of the neighborhood.

The bus station is about 10-15 minutes walk from the jetty from where the ferries to Tioman are leaving.

Mersing, the rising star on the east coast of Malaysia?

Who knows! A lot of construction has been and is still going on.

Even more rumors… 5-star-hotel with 20 stories on an artificial island, 24-hours-jetty, 36-holes-golf course, new airport…

What has happened:

A new wet market was built in the river knee, along with a new bus station and 2 or 3 dozens of shop houses. Quite a distance to the jetty…

Several dozens of new shops have been constructed along the river, from the Rawa office all the way up to the bridge. One long row replaces the old wet market now.

Over the past few years many young couples left Mersing to live in Johor Bahru or Kuala Lumpur, because the salaries there are much higher and the schools promise a better education for their kids. Hopefully the new developments will slow down this migration and rejuvenate Mersing…..
